TIMELINE
1993
After the 1st National Championship, Jiu Jistu has started to get more popularity in Brazil, and Rio de Janeiro was "The Mecca" of this sport at that time with all big names and big clubs based in this city.
1994
Escobar went to a Jiu Jitsu school near his home in Rio de Janeiro, where he met Leo Castello Branco who was originally one of the founders of Alliance Team. Escobar started training full time and developed the desire to compete in the major tournaments and leagues..
1995
Awarded Blue Belt.
Considered one of the top ranked athletes representing Team Alliance by then.
At Alliance, he trained and competed alongside with some of the bests in the business, as such as Leo Vieira, Marcelo Garcia, Demian Maia, Rodrigo "Comprido" Medeiros, Fernando "Terere", Reinaldo Ribeiro and many others.
While enjoying his BJJ journey Escobar has won some important titles.
1997
Awarded Purple Belt (titles)
1999
Awarded Brown Belt (titles)
2000
Awarded Black Belt by Prof. Leo Castello Branco. (titles)
2001
Got his University Degree in Physical Education under one of the best institutions in Brazil (UFRJ).
Occurred Team Alliance's split, arising a new team, named Master Jiu Jitsu , and then called Brasa.
Won the ADCC in this same year, being his 1st competition as Black Belt.
Right after the tournament, suffered a motorcycle accident that put him away from the mats and changed his training rhythm for some time until be fully recovered from his injuries.
2002
Against doctors' odds, Escobar got back in bjj & wrestling competitions winning some more titles.
2003
Awarded the 1st Stripe in his Black Belt.
For work reasons, Escobar stayed away from competitions and moved to Sao Paulo, where he kept his training with Prof. Leo Vieira.
There he stayed until 2005, when he was invited to move to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.
2005
Prof. Escobar arrived in Kuala Lumpur, introducing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to Malaysia and becoming the pioneer and ambassador of the sport in the region.
2008
With the help of a friend and student (Raul Tapia III), they made the very first BJJ Camp in Asia.
With the split of Brasa Team and following Prof. Leo Vieira's steps, Escobar stablished Team Checkmat in Malaysia ( Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Kota Kinabalu, Brunei).
2009
Together with his student and partner Aaron Goh, Prof. Escobar officially started their very own school: - Leverage Combat Academy, which became the HQ of MEBJJ Association in Asia.
They both worked really hard spreading and developing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in the region, making MEBJJA a sport's reference in South East Asia, and by achieving great results in competitions, they started to be seen as the top team in the region.
2010
Helped establish team Checkmat in Singapore.
2011
Signed up to fight at the biggest MMA organisation in Asia (One Championship).
Started fully dedicating his training to his MMA career and was accepted to train with one of the best MMA coaches and academies in the world - André "Dede" Pederneiras and Team Nova União.
2012
Had an overwhelming debut at "Destiny of Warriors" event, pulling a great win via submission as a welterweight. (One-FC-4-Destiny-of-Warriors).
After his debut, for unforeseen reasons, Escobar moved hi full time base back to Brazil where he kept training and competing under Team Nova União.
2013
As a lightweight, pulled another great win via submission in the 1st Round at Shooto Brasil 38.
2014
Prof. Escobar was invited to stay two and half months training and competing in USA, winning several tournaments and medals. After this period in US, he decided to focus exclusively in competing the major Jiu-Jitsu leagues and tournaments.
2016
Prof Escobar and his great friend Raphael Abi-Rihan have started a great training partnership reaping even greater results along the year.
Escobar returned to US to compete and visit his long time friend Rodrigo Comprido in Chicago, who invited him to move and work there, representing his team and academy.
2017
Prof. Escobar has permanently moved to USA, based in Chicago-IL, where he will be competing and refereeing in the biggest tournaments in the official circuit, pursuing the missing titles in his cartel and contributing with the development and fortification of his team in the region.
During this same year Escobar competed in several tournaments making to the podium in all of them. The most important accomplishments for this year were both Gi and NO-Gi Worlds which he won in his divisions in two different federations - IBJJF & SJJIF.
2018
After having a great year's start with a gold medal in the Chicago Open prof. Escobar had a set back having suffered a sever injury outside the mats forcing him to withdraw his name from all the upcoming tournaments what kept him more focused on refereeing and teaching.
He became partner with Prof. Comprido in a brand new school in Lake County - IL where he started developing and testing a different approach and methodology in classes.
2019
With the goal to start another school Prof Escobar moved with his family to Florida where he is current based.
