A Word From Prof. Escobar
This past weekend happened the traditional Copa da Malasia at Jaya Mall in Malaysia. Our Team did great closing up the 2017 season placing overall 2nd in Gi and 3rd in No-Gi.
The event held a Black Belt Superfight where #mebjja coach Ian Lee got the win after his opponent tap to a tight choke from the back beautiful performance to amaze the crowd.
Congrats to all #mebjj coaches, students and competitors for the great performance and results!!
After the event's wrap up, Prof. Escobar left a beautiful message in his social media and we've decided to share here in full and is worth the time to read it.
" To all #mebjja team :
- To each and everyone of you who somehow gave your contribution no matter if in training, competing, cheering, coaching, praying or in any other way, helping your team mates at the latest #CopadaMalasia this past weekend, in the name of all #mebjja team my deeply appreciation for your support - THANK YOU!
Not a fan of long posts but the year is ending and I feel the need to leave this message to all my #bjj family and friends in the other side of the globe.
Winning or losing you all displayed the team spirit me and my coaches always hoped and worked for.
Overall for 2017 we got 2nd in #Gi and 3rd in #NoGi . It could’ve been better in terms of performance? Of course… it always can be better! Even when we are first, we can be/do better. Regardless, our team’s behave, humbleness and persistence, are always outstanding - always FIRST!! #respect
Truth is that at all #escobarbjj academies we never trained Jiu-Jitsu focusing in competitions but we always had great results every time we give it a shot. Of course we love medals and trophies and personally, as a fighter & coach, I believe that competing is an important key-element in the learning process. So, a couple of years ago (ever since the 1st Malaysia BJJ Open), we’ve decided to develop a little more our team’s competition spirit. We knew that adding it to the working been done would help our clubs and students to get more united, concerned about their lifestyle, fitness and health besides their performance of course. Perfect combination huh? A “hellovateam” with fantastic individuals, learning ‘the Gentle Art’ and starting to have a different goal.
Outcome: - Added to all previous (great) results we had, like in a blink of an eye, last year we took over the MIMMA Super-finals, winning 4 belts (only team in history), stepped up in the podium in every single #bjj tournament we participated and showed we are not only the pioneers who started this sport in Malaysia but the ones who persevere the most, even in troubled waters and against all the odds sometimes.
We don’t need labels. We will not simply be a part of history once history was made and is being written by us - Makes me proud knowing that WE ARE THE HISTORY!
Makes me proud to remember our very 1st BJJ class (a decade ago) or any of our grading ceremonies where I keep my same words: - “ I am not worry about making champions, but making better human beings, building not only a team but a family and then, I am sure champions will be made along the way!”
… and here we are!! Oh how I wish to have videoed that!
But still, if you wish to give us a label… just label us as “ #family “
In a second note, would like to show my appreciation to all coaches and all individuals in Malaysia who have joined us in this journey . To me, what was a dream back in 2005 is finally becoming true and #jiujitsu is growing and becoming more and more popular everyday. I don’t care I've been the 1st, all I care is I am not the last and the legacy goes on. God bless ya’ll! Oss #bjj4life "
